Gambling support

Gambling Support: Free Help and Tools to Stay in Control

Think of gambling as paid entertainment with a budget, not as income. When it starts to worry you, or someone close to you, free confidential support is open every day of the year.

Where to get free help

All of these services are free to use for people in Great Britain.

National Gambling Helpline

Free, confidential advice by phone or live chat, 24 hours a day, run by GamCare. Call 0808 8020 133 or visit gamcare.org.uk.

GambleAware

Explains gambling harms, offers an online self-check and points you to free NHS-funded treatment. gambleaware.org

GamStop self-exclusion

Register once, free of charge, and every British-licensed gambling website and app must shut you out — choose half a year, one year or five. gamstop.co.uk

NHS gambling services

Specialist NHS clinics treat gambling problems in England, and you can refer yourself. nhs.uk — gambling addiction

Gamblers Anonymous UK

Free peer-support meetings, in person and online, for anyone who wants to stop gambling. gamblersanonymous.org.uk

GamAnon — for families

Support groups for partners, relatives and friends of someone who gambles. gamanon.org.uk

Controls every UK-licensed casino must offer

You can switch these on in your account settings at any casino licensed by the Gambling Commission. Lowering a limit takes effect straight away; raising one is delayed.

Deposit limits

Every licensed operator lets you cap deposits by day, week or month. Since 31 October 2025 new customers are asked to set a limit before their first deposit.

Reality checks

On-screen reminders show how long you have been playing, so a session does not run on unnoticed.

Time-outs

A short break, typically from a day up to six weeks, during which you cannot log in to play.

Self-exclusion

Lock yourself out of one casino for six months or more, or out of every British-licensed site in one step via GamStop.

Slot stake limits

Online slots are capped at £5 a spin, or £2 a spin for players aged 18 to 24.

Warning signs worth taking seriously

Gambling harm often builds slowly. Any of these can be a sign that it is time to pause and talk to someone:

  • spending more money or time than you planned, or chasing losses to win them back;
  • borrowing, using savings meant for bills, or hiding gambling from people close to you;
  • restlessness or low mood on days without a bet;
  • using gambling as a way out of stress, loneliness or boredom.

You can take a short self-assessment on the GambleAware website, or simply call the helpline on 0808 8020 133 — there is no need to be in crisis to ask for advice.

Blocking gambling on your own devices

Self-exclusion works best alongside other barriers. Free tools such as BetBlocker block gambling websites and apps on phones and computers, and paid blockers such as Gamban work in a similar way. Many UK banks also let you switch on a gambling block for your debit card in their app.

If you are worried about someone else

Talking openly and without judgement usually helps more than confrontation. GamCare's helpline also advises family members, and GamAnon runs groups for people affected by someone else's gambling.

Our approach

We do not show casino listings, ratings or sign-up links on this page. On the rest of the site we only list operators licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, and we do not promote bonuses. If you think something on Rollarasync encourages harmful gambling, tell us at [email protected].
